Northbridge

After installing and running the game, the Northbridge Launcher will open. Northbridge adds functionality that may be handy for you. It will also build the Jump List to the launcher, so you can access some of the features by right-clicking on the icon (if you pinned it on the taskbar, or (in the case of Windows 10) from the Start Menu).

This is where you can either start or quick load the game. Clicking on the arrow near the button will show the option to Quickly Load the recent save and continue where you left of.

This tab houses Northbridge's Save Manager. Here, you can import, export, backup, restore and delete the saves and backups.

Import

You can import your save files by clicking the Import button. If you want to move the save file to a different slot, click on the checkbox and pick the slot you want it to be and then click on the Import button.

Export

If you need to keep a copy of the save files quickly, you can use either click on Export (to pick which saves you want to backup) or Export All (accessible by clicking on the arrow near the button and clicking “Export All” on the list, to export all of the save files).

Delete All Saves

This option will delete all saves in the save folder.

Automatic Backup

Northbridge provides a backup system. When the game runs, Northbridge monitors the save folder to see when it should backup. When the game closes, it will copy the files to a backup folder you choose, sorted in folders with the date of backup as the name of the folder. Here, you can set up the folder where the backup will be saved. You can also restore from a backup or delete the backups.

To set up the Automatic Backup:

  1. Tick the box to enable it.
  2. Click on the Browse button to pick the folder.
  3. Click on the test button to make sure it's set properly.

If everything went well, it should now work.

Restore Backup

If you need to restore from a backup, click the Restore button and pick the folder from the backup.

Delete Backups

If you need to delete all of the backups, click the Delete button (inside the Delete All Backups portion) to erase them all of the backups in the folder set in the configuration.

The information center gives information about the game, access to the readme file and some other links. It also includes the Diagnostics area, which can give info on what doesn't work as it should.

Setting nameDescription
Skip Splash screenWhen the game starts, the splash screen is skipped. The game starts immediately on the title screen.
Compatibility ModeIf the game crashes, this setting will force the game to run in compatibility mode. The game will use “C:\ImmortalSins” instead of “Saved Games”, found in the user's folder.
Hardware AccelerationOnly available on the non-Microsoft Store versions. Uses OpenGL to improve performance. This should be enabled if necessary.
Keep only the latest backupThis option will force the backup system to only keep the latest version of the backup. Works best with cloud storage services.
Compress the backupsAll backups generated by the Northbridge Platform will be compressed.

Characters

Maria

Maria is a noble girl that lived in a peaceful town. Her dad is a well-known priest on Rengrum. She takes care of her sister, Nicole, and her mother when he is away. She is very intelligent (especially on the medical front) and her sense of justice is good.

Elena

Elena is a rookie dragon slayer, a clan whose goals were to exterminate the dragons but were defeated by the alliance. Raised by a nomadic tribe, she learned the techniques for slaying dragons but never accomplished her missions. Her dream is to join the Corsairs, an elite group specializing in spec ops.

Gus

Gus is the leader of his own mercenary team, the Leviathan. He is known for his mysticism, cunning planning, manipulation and Intel gathering, all the while, staying calm. While Rick does drive him nuts sometimes, even on the smallest and biggest issues, he always has the answer.

Jena

Jena is the muscle of the Leviathan team. Nobody knows her backstory, but there is a rumor that she was an orphan and when she got lost, she killed a small group of wolves with her bare hands. She is immensely strong, and even if she takes the beating of her life, she always gets up like she lost her balance for a while.

Rick

Rick is the “Specialist” (as he likes to call himself) of the Leviathan team. What is known about him is that he can be harsh to Maria sometimes (assuming that neither Gus nor Jena are present). Not much is known about him; however, some speculate that he is a Dragonborn, a child that has a dragon as a relative. He hates carrying weapons, relying on his fists to take down anybody who stands in his way (unless it's Gus or Jena).

Zero

Commander Zero is the Celtia Royal Army's best leader, a skilled tactician, and the first female commander. Her records show that she won thousands of battles during small-scale wars. Her origins are classified.

Sierra

Sierra (as they know him from the codename) is one of the famed gunslingers and a skilled assassin. His skills on the flintlock will ensure that his victim's fate is sealed. Records show that he also participated in a few wars. His only friend is Axel, a fellow assassin who take missions together.

Axel

Axel is a skilled swordsman on single-edged swords and a fellow assassin (and friend) of Sierra. His sword was made by his father, who's also the most wanted (if not one of them) swordsmen of the continent. He has the tendency to throw some ridiculous quotes. He's like Sierra's big brother (hence the nickname “Big Brother”).

Once you start the game, the title screen will show up. Select an option with the arrow keys (or the keys you've mapped in the Controls menu).

Start the story of Maria from the beginning.

Pick up from what you've left off. You'll be prompted to select a page (the game's version of a save file). You can also delete pages here.

Adjust game options from here.

Close the game and return to the desktop.

Adjust the key binds here.

With the exception of the keyboard bindings, you can adjust the game options at any time (even in-game).

BGM/BGS/SFX VolumeAdjusts the volume of background music, background sound, and sound effects.
Auto-DashThe characters automatically dash when moving. This also switches Shift to walking.
Instant TextWhen setting it to “Instant” the text will be shown instantly, rather than slowly.
Battle AnimationsShows or hides the animations in battle.
Regional EffectsEffects are played when passing some areas (such as walking on a bridge). Some computers may run the game better if this is disabled.
ATB StyleThis mainly affects Active Player Response (Active Attack and Active Defense) part of the ATB System. Setting it to “Classic ATB” disables Active Player Response, which may make the battles difficult.

Full Screen and Original/Double Resolution options are adjusted on the fly by pressing F5 and F6, respectively. The engine settings (which is accessible by pressing F1) can also be adjusted on the fly as well, but Keyboard and Gamepad settings are ignored by the game. Engine settings also affect other games that are made with RPG Maker VX Ace as well.

During gameplay, you can explore the world of Latraynope at any time (as long as you aren't on a story mission on a specific area). when exploring, you can trade items, armor, and weapons in the shops, stay at an inn (for a fee) to restore all of the squad members to pristine condition, explore dungeons, etc. As the game progresses, more squadron members will join you on your adventure.

You can bring the Game Menu at any time by pressing the Escape key (or the Open Menu key, if you remapped it), as long as you aren't in a battle. Here, you can use items and skills, switch equipment and active squadron members, save and load a file and check the current mission objectives. The menu is structured as follows:

NumberNameDescription
1InventoryUse any items you found and/or bought and check any Key Items you found in the game.
2ArtsUse any squad members' skills and learn new or improve your existing ones.
3EquipmentManage a squad member's equipment.
4StatusCheck the status, stats and the biography of a squad member.
5SquadronChange the active squad members. (You can do this during battles as well)
6JournalCheck the missions and requests you've received.
7OptionsAdjust the game's settings (except the key bindings).
8DiarySave, load or delete save files.
9Game EndReturn to the title screen or exit to desktop.
10Location NameThe name of the location that you are right now.
11Game TimeHow much time this playthrough took up until this point.
12Gold CounterHow much gold you have at this point.
13Member's statusSee the current HP and MP for each member.

In this menu, you can check and use any items you have. You can also see any weapons, armor and key items you have. In addition, you can check items in several categories as well.

In this menu, you can take a look at the member's Combat, Mystical and Drive Arts. Some of them can be used outside of the battle as well. You can access the “Learn Arts” and “Hone Arts” menus from here.

You can manage the member's equipment in this menu. You can either swap them manually by selecting the “Change” command or equip the best parts by selecting “Optimize”.

You can swap active squadron members (the ones who will participate in a battle) from this menu.

You can see all story and guild missions (along with requests) in this menu. You can also filter them by their status as well.

In this menu, you can save, load or delete save files (a page is a save file). When browsing the files, you can see a quick rundown of the point you saved on the right-hand side of the screen. The maximum amount of pages is 24.

As you progress on the game, you'll be able to hone the member's skills, along with learning new ones. New Combat and Drive Arts are earned by leveling up and spending LP (Learn Points).Earning from leveling up is simple: Simply earn enough experience until the member levels up. Only the active members receive Experience Points. Alternatively, you can spend LP. You can access the Learn Arts menu in the Arts menu.

Learning new Mystical Arts works differently. With the exception of Elena, all members can learn a specific set of Mystical Arts by visiting a Magic Shop and spend gold pieces on each skill.

Honing Arts is pretty essential. You can spend LP to improve the skills. Improving a skill will enhance the effects of a skill, making them more useful. Some of them even evolve into new ones as well. Combat and Mystical Arts' maximum level is 4 while for Drive Arts is 2.

When exploring, you can enter into dungeons. When inside the dungeons, you can fight enemies, find items and (in some cases) fulfill requests you've received. Some enemies will look different, depending on how far are you from them. In any case, if you are close enough, the enemy will chase you when they see you. Dashing make you more visible to the enemy. If you sneak up to the enemy, you will get the upper hand in the battle. The same thing happens to you if the enemy sneaks up on you. With some exceptions, you can escape from battles, but it may take longer to do so. More info about this is covered in the Battles section of the manual.

Whenever you engage an enemy (when sneaking up on them or vice versa) and at some points during the story, you'll be taken to the Battle Screen.

You can access this menu by pressing the Cancel key, when at least one member is ready.

EscapeAttempt to escape the battle.
Auto BattleActivates Auto-Battle.
SquadronManage the squadron and swap active members.

For the most part, you can escape from battles unless it's a story or a mission specific battle by selecting “Escape” from the squadron commands menu. This affected mainly by the party's agility. If the enemy squadron is faster than yours, you will have a hard time escaping.

When a member's Health Points is 15%, they will reach their Critical Point. When they are at their Critical Point, they'll receive less damage from attacks, giving you time to heal them.

When the enemy attacks a member of your squadron, a shield icon will pop up, along with an outline that closes into the center of the icon. Press the “Active Defense” key when the outline is close to the icon. When done right, the member will receive less damage.

Some attacks will show a different icon with a different outline closing into the center of that icon. Pressing the “Active Attack” key when the outline is close to that icon, will boost the damage of that attack.

If a character has a shield equipped, there's a small chance that part of the damage is blocked by the shield. The bigger the shield, the bigger the chance that part of the damage is blocked. Guarding also increases the chances.

Troubleshooting

ProblemSolution(s)
The game runs slow.1. Your computer’s CPU has overheated. Stop playing the game, close the computer and let it cool off. The game relies heavily on the CPU’s power, so to prevent damages due to overheating, it will run at lower speeds.
2. Set the computer’s power settings to performance. Your CPU may be running at lower speeds to preserve battery life.
3. Make sure that the GPU is running in performance mode.
It takes a while to load a save file. The game uses a compatibility script to ensure that your save files will still work should the engine receives an internal update and introduces new information to store. You can speed up the loading times by defragging your hard drive (not the SSD!). Upgrading to a hybrid or an SSD will also improve the loading times.
I cannot save! / The game crashes trying to load the settings. / My settings are not saved.Make sure that you have some space for your save and settings files. If you do not have at least 1MB for saves and settings, you won’t be able to save. The Northbridge Platform checks if the game can write in the save folder. If you do have enough space and you still cannot save, check if you can write on the folder (say, make a simple text file) or run the game with administrative privileges. If neither of them helps, try to run the game in compatibility mode (Settings →Compatibility Mode). This will save your settings and game saves in a temporary folder and will transfer them back to the save folder, when the game closes.
